Brand: Handed By is a Dutch brand of woven baskets, bags and accessories. The brand mainly uses recycled and sustainable materials. Every item is handmade, ethically manufactured and guaranteed child labour free.
Case: Handed By was looking to develop a complete new range of bags and pouches with prints and printed details. They didn’t have any experience with having their custom patterns designed. That’s why I was commissioned to design 2 minimalistic graphic prints.
Solution: Together with the Creative Director and Product Designer I formed the print concept for this line named “YUP”. They had a global idea of style, colours and materials beforehand. From the first sketches they immediately chose 2 prints: a clean & crisp pattern and a playful, handdrawn pattern.
Versatile: The prints create a cohesive and complementing unity. By offering both designs in 2 colourways and applying them in a clever manner, Handed By was able to develop a broad collection with ‘only’ 2 custom patterns.
Result: A modest collection with 2 different prints in 2 colourways was a great way to test if the collection would resonate with their audience. The collection was received very well. So well that the next season (A/W 2017-2018) the collection was expanded with new products and 2 new prints.
